Sara Bareilles

As a gifted singer and a versatile pianist with no formal training, Sara Bareilles burst onto the pop scene with a naturally skilled voice ranging from powerful and soulful to sweet and gentle, earning her instant comparisons to Fiona Apple and Norah Jones. At age 18, she left the Redwood forests of her hometown, Eureka, CA, in pursuit of the big city lights of Los Angeles. Although she attended UCLA’s Communication Studies program, Bareilles spent the majority of her spare time studying her new environment and writing poetry and songs about the busy surroundings. After graduating, she spent the next three years performing those songs at open-mike nights, slowly building her confidence as a musician before playing local venues and festivals. In 2003, she co-produced her first demo, Careful Confessions, and became enthralled with recording techniques. Eager to go back to the studio and create a second full-length album, she started shopping her CD around and signed a deal with Epic Records in April 2005. Producer Eric Rosse took her under his wing the following February and the two spent a little over a year perfecting the orchestration — nearly half of the songs had formerly appeared on Careful Confessions and a new batch of tracks was carefully constructed in order to make her first major-label release as strong as possible. The lyrical themes of the album, entitled Little Voice and released in July 2007, covered her past relationships, insecurities, and inner battles with trying to trust her instincts.Click Sara Bareilles

Breakout

Young Miley Cyrus became an overnight sensation in 2006 as the star of the Disney Channel television series Hannah Montana, but fortunately her family has had some experience with that sort of thing — her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, went from obscurity to stardom in a few short months when the song “Achy Breaky Heart” hit the charts in 1992. The success of “Achy Breaky Heart” was hardly the only memorable event for Billy Ray that year — on November 23, 1992, he and his wife welcomed their daughter Destiny Hope Cyrus into the world. Destiny’s cheerful disposition as a child earned her the nickname Smiley, which stuck when it was shortened to Miley. Miley’s career as a professional actress began in 2003, when she appeared in an episode of the television series Doc, which starred her father; the same year, she landed a small role in the Tim Burton film Big Fish. Miley developed an interest in music early on, writing songs and learning to sing while still a preteen, and in 2005 she landed a role that allowed her to put her skills in acting and music to work. Miley was cast in the title role of Hannah Montana, in which she played a teenage girl leading a double life — by day, she’s Miley Stewart, an ordinary kid dealing with school, her friends, her siblings, and all the other foibles of life for a 14-year-old, while a night she dons a wig and becomes Hannah Montana, a multi-platinum pop star whose career is guided by her dad Robby Stewart, a successful songwriter. However, Miley’s friends don’t know she’s also Hannah, and keeping this a secret is no simple matter. Debuting in March 2006, Hannah Montana became an immediate success with young viewers, and in October, a soundtrack CD was released, featuring Miley singing eight songs from the show along with five related tracks, including a duet between Miley and her father Billy Ray on “I Learned from You.” That fall, Miley hit the road, wowing audiences as the opening act for another Disney-spawned pop act, the Cheetah Girls, and in March 2007, the Hannah Montana album was reissued in a special edition featuring a bonus DVD, not long after the show’s theme song, “The Best of Both Worlds,” was released as a single. A second Hannah Montana album, Hannah Montana, Vol. 2: Meet Miley Cyrus, is scheduled for release on June 26, 2007.

Disturbed

Inside The Fire by Disturbed

Heavy metal band Disturbed came together through the matching of a band with a singer. Longtime friends Dan Donegan (guitar), Mike Wengren (drums), and Fuzz (bass) played together in Chicago for some time before hooking up with singer David Draiman around 1997. Draiman had grown up in a religious family against which he rebelled, being expelled from five boarding schools in his adolescence. His anger found an outlet in the thrashing sound of Disturbed, and the band built up a following on Chicago’s south side before a demo tape led to their signing to Giant Records, which released their debut album, The Sickness, in March 2000. The band gained more fans and exposure playing the main stage of the 2001 Ozzfest, then breaking away to do their own self-described “victory lap” around the U.S. that fall. Also during this period, they managed to record a vicious new version of wrestler Steve Austin’s theme song that was so good it managed to receive radio play, and they were one of the many bands announced to work on a high-profile Faith No More tribute album. The band stepped into the studio after stepping off of the road and began work on a new disc that would reflect their growth as a band. Feeling experimental, the group worked with producer Johnny K and mixer Andy Wallace in order to create an album that could compare to other classic metal records they admired. Amplifying their fondness for groups like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Pantera, and Soundgarden, Believe was released in the fall of 2002 and was recognized as a heavier, more varied, and ultimately superior record to their debut, ultimately reaching the top of the Billboard 200. The tour document Music as a Weapon II appeared in 2004, and the ambitious studio full-length Ten Thousand Fists in September 2005. ~ William Ruhlmann & Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide Click Inside The Fire

The Dark Knight

Batman black t-shirt. Features dark image of Heath Ledger as the Joker. 100% Cotton. Officially Licensed. Immortalize a memorable performance Ever been in a vintage movie store? Seen classic movie images that invoke the whole film just by a single frame? You see the image and you think “classic” just looking at it. You know its a mark in cinema and not just average imagery. For Heath ledger, and no I’m not really a fan (I like A Knights Tale) and obviously his Joker in Dark Knight; this shirt captures his performance silently but brilliantly in a black and white image. It’s awesome! Recommended for anyone that was thrilled by his final performance.Click Buy Now !!!

The Dark Knight Batman

The Dark Knight returns! Featuring the likeness of Christian Bale as Batman. Walk the fine line between hero and vigilante!

The Dark Knight returns to rid Gotham City of villains and to bob on your desk! This surprisingly well-detailed bobble head stands 6-inches tall and is made of resin. He features a true-to-life likeness of Christian Bale as Batman in an intricate black suit and cape atop a Dark Knight base. Order this and you, too, can walk the fine line between hero and vigilante as you purge your home or office of baddies ! The Dark Knight reunites director Christopher Nolan with star Christian Bale, who returns to continue Batman’s war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as the Joker (Heath Ledger), who thrusts the city into anarchy and forces the Dark Knight ever closer to crossing that line between hero and vigilante.
The Dark Knight Joker HeadKnocker
Awesome collector’s item!!!
I found this at a retail store for $14.99 which was on sale for $10.99. I was amazed because everyone has jacked up their price of every single piece of Joker merchandise. The action figured are going for $70 or more. That is insane. The Joker costumes are going for hundreds and hundreds of dollars too. Don’t miss out on this cheap collector’s item. I got the Batman one to go with it. DO NOT MISS OUT!

The Dark Knight

51Eb2EsmVQL._SL500_AA280_The Dark Knight - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Better after seeing the Movie
When I first listened to this soundtrack, I though it was pretty good, but didn’t really rival some of the other best soundtracks. After seeing the incredible movie, however, I think this is one of the best soundtracks ever. It adds so much to the experience of this movie, so much more suspense and complexity. And when listened to after the movie, it just brings back such wonderful memories. It’s really worth a good listen, especially since it’s impossible to give it the attention it deserves while watching the movie.
My favorite tracks so far are: “Why So Serious”, “Aggresive Expansion”, “Like a Dog Chasing Cars”, and “Watch the World Burn”.

Flo Rida

Low

BY Flo Rida

Flo Rida- Mail On Sunday

Flo Rida is so weak. I got this CD for free, from a friend. And obviously they didn’t want it, and gave it to me. I just got done throwing the CD away. It really isn’t great, I’d rather listen to 50 Cent’s “Curtis” CD.

Flo Rida is a terrible rapper! It’s not even funny…it’s annoying! The single “Low,” which only peaked at No. 1 because of T-Pain, was out even when it was in. And “Elevator” is just as lame, but will probably do good on the charts because of Timbaland. But, for sure..the album will not sale!

Beck

Beck

ALBUMS Modern Guilt

BECK IS AMAZING!
Beck’s new album, Modern Guilt, is totally AWESOME! but really it’s good, the sound and rhythms of this album are classic 60’s soundin’ Beck! but it has a little twist that Danger Mouse puts on it with his beats and modern sounds. The album is also very direct, unlike The Information with its sticker cover art, this isn’t bad though. If you like Beck (which I think you do if you’re reading a review!) you’ll love this! it’s a very spiritual and psychedelic album.

GOOD OLE’ BECK! (with a little bit of a twist)

Groovy!!!,
This album is sooooo cool! Right from the start it has a great groove, which never lets up. I think an earlier reviewer described it as 60’s style Beck and I would have to agree. I’d say there is a bit of 70’s rock thrown in as well in the vein of Bowie. I wouldn’t say there are any real standout tracks here. Modern Guilt is just solid from start to finish and it really feels like a complete album rather than just a collection of songs. The transition between songs is very smooth, which gives the album a real relaxed feel. As I said, it just really grooves and puts you in a happy place. Even though this is a brand new album, there’s a nostalgic feel about it. Maybe this is due to the fact that it hearkens back to the sounds of the sixties, or perhaps Beck just has the ability to produce instant classics. Regardless of the reason, this is one of Beck’s best; sit back and enjoy.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry -One Of The Boys

Tracks:
Details Distributor: EMI Music Distribution Recording type: Studio Recording mode: Stereo SPAR Code: n/a

Album notes
Katy Perry is the late 2000s version of the sassy pop-rocker wielding girl power like an Uzi. Blending elements of Alanis Morrisette, Britney Spears, and Gwen Stefani, Perry’s 2008 debut, ONE OF THE BOYS, bashes metrosexuals (“Ur So Gay”), flaunts lesbian experimentation (“I Kissed a Girl”), and celebrates spontaneous road trips (“Waking Up in Vegas”). Thanks to a cadre of top-shelf producers, including Desmond Child, Dave Stewart, and Glen Ballard (who also produced Morissette), ONE OF THE BOYS glitters like spun cotton candy, but it’s Perry’s bold, topical songs and in-your-face attitude that help the album pack a punch.

Bubblegum hybrid rock
By Mang
It’s no surprise that the ghost of Alannis wanders throughout this album, since Glen Ballard was on production duties. Unfortunately, Perry is no Morrisette. Perry has lots of bark but little bite, and One of the Boys is firmly targeted at the teenage crowd who will probably enjoy it a lot. But for the rest of us, there isn’t much to sink your teeth into.

The beats are catchy, and the choruses will probably stick in your head for a while. But ultimately, it’s the kind of album you may listen to a lot and find stuck in a CD binder years later. You sit there and stare at it for a few moments, wondering if it’s worth another spin. And you usually decide it isn’t.

Personally, I think it’s a little too polished to really rock out, and the lyrics are generally clever posturing instead of having the subversion strongly suggested by getting Madonna’s seal of approval. She has a great, throaty voice that slips easily in and out of falsetto. But the package is over-produced, frankly. This slick, meticulous engineering is constantly at odds with her adventurism, to the point where you wonder how much substance is underneath all the stifling gloss and flourish.

I think she could have a really hot album on her hands — if and when she cuts herself free from the Starmaker Machine. If she stays on this path, she’ll probably make a lot of money from touring and another album or two, and shovel more money into the coffers of people like Ballard. Then her fan base matures and starts listening to other stuff. And unless you’re a Madonna, you’re not going to be able to adapt.

If she could make a real rock album, instead of this bubblegum hybrid, who knows. Sky’s the limit. Joan Jett’s the only one who’s gotten close, and that was a while ago. You don’t have to be another Avril Lavigne. One is more than enough.

Edit: There’s also Sleater-Kinney — I can’t believe I forgot them. Unfortunately, they disbanded a few years ago. But they might actually rock *too* hard for Perry’s liking.

Coldplay

Coldplay

Albums
Viva La Vida

Coldplay never intended to become England’s favorite rock & roll sons when their signature rock melodies ruled the charts throughout 2000. The Brit rock quartet — composed of Chris Martin (vocals/piano), Jon Buckland (guitar), Will Champion (drums), and Guy Berryman (bass) — yearned to mess around a bit, plucking their own acoustics for fun while attending the University College of London. All had been playing instruments since their early teens and had been influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan, the Stone Roses, Neil Young, and My Bloody Valentine.

They never imagined taking reign of the U.K.’s ever-changing rock scene. Each member had come from a solid household of working-class parents who encouraged music. Martin, the eldest of five, began playing the piano as a young child. He started playing in bands around age 15 and sought solace in the words of Tom Waits. Buckland, on the other hand, was into the heavy guitar work of Eric Clapton andThe  Jimi Hendrix and was playing guitar by age 11. Scotland native Berryman was into funk instead of indie rock, therefore leaving him to play bass. The multi-instrumentalist, Champion, didn’t plan to be a drummer until he joined Coldplay. He favored playing guitar, bass, and the tin whistle, but caught on to playing percussion when the band became official.

Coldplay was heart-rending like Travis, passionate like Jeff Buckley, and as fresh as Oasis when they burst onto the scene. They had played their first gig at a festival for unsigned bands in Manchester, and the Safety EP was issued shortly thereafter. The Brothers & Sisters EP was issued by Fierce Panda and released a year later. (Both releases saw only 500 pressings.) Their sweet melodies and swooning lyrics landed Coldplay a U.K. deal with Parlophone in April 1999, and the five-track limited-edition Blue Room EP followed that fall. With nods from the media, the dream pop foursome was hailed as the next Travis, thanks to their simplistic acoustics and charming personas. Two more EPs, Shiver and Yellow, arrived in spring 2000.

Their full-length debut, Parachutes, earned the band a Mercury Music Prize in the U.K. It saw a U.S. release in November 2000, and a month later “Yellow” was chosen as the theme song for all promo spots for ABC. The well-received hype surrounding Coldplay continued throughout 2001 as well; they were nominated for three Brit Awards and embarked on a sold-out ten-date tour of the U.S. Rumors of a split consumed most of the U.S. tour. Martin frequently battled nasty colds and voice exhaustion, which led Coldplay to cancel a series of American dates and scrap a European tour. With all gossip aside, Coldplay resumed playing in summer 2001 and earned additional success with second single “Trouble.”

By fall, they headed into the studio for a second album. Rumor had it that it might be Coldplay’s last album, for the bandmembers felt they might not capture such brilliance again. A Rush of Blood to the Head was released in August 2002. The CD/DVD package Live 2003 was issued one year later. Capturing the band’s show at the Horden Pavilion in Sydney, Australia, it highlighted Coldplay’s monumental success worldwide with A Rush of Blood to the Head. Martin specifically earned a higher notch on the celebrity scale by marrying actress Gwyneth Paltrow in December 2003. Paltrow gave birth to the couple’s first daughter, Apple Blythe Alison Martin, the following April.

Fatherhood didn’t stop Martin from working, as Coldplay began recording material for a third album within weeks. Previously recorded material with longtime producer Ken Nelson was scrapped early on, while Danton Supple (Morrissey, the Cure) joined Coldplay to complete the recording of X&Y. “Speed of Sound” marked Coldplay’s first single from their long-awaited third effort in spring 2005; the album followed in June, topping the charts around the world, including America and Britain. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
